Dash video!

I am proud to unveil my masterpiece, the INSEAD Dash video:

More info on the production of this video:

I used Final Cut Pro, because that’s what I’m trained in. iMovie is easier but more amateurish. And don’t even get me started on Windows Movie Maker.

Video afficionados may notice the need for de-interlacing at some points; I applied the filter but somehow that made the video clips look mushy, which was worse. So I decided to leave it as it is. The .avi clips looked fine on a PC, but when transferred to my Mac there was interlacing. A classmate has since educated me on why this happens :)

Areas for improvement:

We could’ve planned a theme in advance and coordinated our filming styles - e.g. not zig-zagging so much Agree on one format - either 4:3 or 16:9. My bad - I shot the last minute of videos using my sister’s semi-professional HD video recorder which is 16:9 by default, whereas 4:3 would’ve been more suitable for web video.

While working many nights on the video, rendering and re-rendering with lots of trials and errors, I was glad I didn’t choose a career in video production :) It’s fun as a hobby but not my cup of tea for high-pressure work. Within the realm of multimedia I am much more comfortable doing sound editing. If you didn’t notice anything about the sound in the video, then I’ve done my job well. I had to do some blending and mixing and balance the traffic noise with funny shrieks and shouts that punctuated the video.

Anyway, enough technical info from me… enjoy the video and spread the word. P1s and beyond, we are looking to you to continue the tradition!!!
