This site may go down

March 31, 2006 1:47 PM | Comments (2)

My web host has informed me that the server CPU load hit 99.9% because of trackback spam sent to this website.

If it continues tomorrow (which is likely), my account will be suspended indefinitely. I have to do a lot of things to fix it and back up all my data. And that of everyone else hosted on my account.

See you around - hopefully when I'm next back online.

You could just rename the trackback CGI to something else, and then the CPU load should go down, don't you think? It's cheaper to serve 404s than to run a CGI; no extra processes spawning.

Hey Ralph, that's what I did in the end. Was too lazy to do anything else more drastic :-P
